FROM THE COMMUNITY: My best race was at the finish line of the Marine Corps Marathon in 1999. It was my first marathon and one that qualified me for the Boston marathon. Thats not why it was my best. It was my best because after I got to the Iwo Jima memorial at the finish, a Marine stood at attention to put the Finishers Medal on me and said Congratulations mam!. There was something about the way the Marine said that that made that moment for me so significant, and Ill remember it forever. I grew up within the military and have always had so much respect for them and it meant a lot to receive something so significant from an individual in uniform. -shared by Michi S.
