FROM THE DESK OF SHELLEY HARTMAN PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR CARLTON COUNTY FAIR I was just thinking.. The Carlton County Fair is going to be starting in a week. Wow. That means summer is almost over again.. Well. There has been a few questions asked about a few things that go on at the fair. #1. The cost to get in,.. Why does it cost $7. to get in the fair. Well many fairs have a beer garden. Well CCF doesnt. Yes they used to but the community did a petition and brought it to the Annual Meeting years ago and said.. Lets make this a family fair.. so.. the change came. The fair pays out a lot of money for premiums, judges racing awards (horse and car) and entertainment... And that is where most of our money from the gates goes. Some fairs make people pay to enter their animals, flowers, pies and knitting. and that is how they pay the premiums won.. #2. Yes the races changed their schedule this year too... The Demolition Derby is gonna be on Saturday night and the Figure 8 is going to be on Sunday night... Some are saying why would you do that.. well. the drivers requested it.. so. We as a board accepted to try it... sometimes change works good.. #3. We are NOT county owned... People always ask this question cuz why do I have to pay this or that.. I pay taxes.. We do get a check from the county in the spring to help with some of the maintenance costs and projects but. We appreciate any help they give to us. Over the years the County Commissioners have worked great with the fair. It is a well known and well liked fair. Even the President of the MN State Fair has complimented our little fair... Well... if you want to experience a great time and see many friends you know.. Come on down and see all that goes on at the fair.. IF you got things to enter check the schedule in the Premium Book. and if you dont have one.. just stop down at the fair office and pick one up. and if you have questions.. dont be afraid to call Allysha, the fair manager, to help you out.. OH yes. The Annual Meeting is the 3rd THursday in the month of October. We are always looking for new members and if you want changes made.. Consider running for the Board of Directors... there is 2 terms up this year.. and I am one. and will not be running again. But I have loved the run again...
