FROM THE Hunt for Osama Bin Salsa to be published 2015 DESI BOY: I asked him how he managed to evade the “here is your bride” scheme from his parents so far. He said, “Oh I know how to deal with that; my mum asks me all the time, ‘Are you dating anyone, son?” I just said, “Mom, I don have time for that, I’m studying too hard!” He was …very funny. He knew his game. His parents had decided, after he had done his O Levels and A Levels (British Standard University Qualifications, adopted by countries with the British educational system in place) that he needed a US College Degree in order to have a career in America, so they had got him a visa and paid for him to go to college in Chicago. He said it had been a sham, he said, as many others had told me, those O levels and A levels were far more educational and intense than US College; so when he got to school in America, he had already done the entire course work before. He said he just partied his ass off and chased girls for three years, and not studied, and still got all A’s graduating college with Honors. Then he had to choose a career, he chose dentistry and was now going to UIC. He was a real charmer, his intent was quite plain, refilling my glass, but he was definitely a guy who could charm nearly any woman. I wasn’t sure whether to let him, I mean, Ive seen much worse things naked. It seemed a little too calculated, but there was no pressure on his part. We were watching cars going the wrong way, down the one way street in front, and people staggering away from Gay Pride. Two girls in particular, had us really laughing, they were really drunk and deep in one of those amazing conversations, nearly holding each other up, they decided to lean on the hood of parked car. The one leaning back on the hood, started to slide down, as the other one was talking to her and and leaning over her. Neither could help the other to stay straight, or upright, and they couldn’t stop laughing to help themselves. They were so drunk they had us crying laughing at them. There were people pushing shopping carts, with drunker friends in the cart. There was multicolored debris in the road. It was getting to sunset, and Charmers roommates wanted to watch football in the main room, right behind us, so he suggested we move to his room. His room was very plain, just his crash pad, somewhere he liked to remove his clothing very quickly. Too quickly for me, so I asked to use the bathroom and I went out of the door to the train home. You can’t play a player.
