FROM THE LEADERSHIP OF THE UNION (as at 18th September 2014) EMERGENCY!!!! ABSENCE OF WATER AND LIGHT ON OAU CAMPUS The total darkness (power outage) and lack of adequate water supply that is currently being experienced since around 1:00a.m on Tuesday 16th September in our dear Alma Mata that is supposed to be an ideal developed society and a role model to other tertiary institutions in Nigeria, has reached a point where it is unbearable by our students. However, at the inception of this anomaly, the union leaders consulted different bodies and it was gathered that the problem emanates from Oshogbo. Immediately, the welfare director put a call across to the Director of PHCN and he promised that the light will be restored before nightfall on Tuesday or latest Wednesday 17th sept of which we waited hoping that the electricity will be restored but to our utter dismay the light is yet to be restored as today 18th September. The leadership of the union had to storm power house, maintenance and the PHCN office at Oshogbo to further mount pressure on them. most saddening is the fact the university management has refused to act proactively to the current situation on campus and by not ensuring alternative supply of power in our hostels despite the effort of the union leaders to get them provide alternative source since the varsity has about 6 generators but the university has been giving excuses that the generators are in bad conditions and we believe that the university should be well organized such that they should have prepared for situations like this if the university is to claim the position of being the best in Nigeria because it still remains a myth and an irony that a university like OAU still operates like that of the Paleolithic age. We have reiterated our position to the management that our members cannot continue academics activities under this kind of conditions and we have copied ASUU and NASU that if the light is not restored before 6pm today 18th Thursday 2014, there will be no lectures and other activities on campus on Friday 19th 2014. It is on the basis of the foregoing that union leaders comprising the leadership of the parliament, CEC and the judicial council declare a warning lecture boycott on the 19th Sept 2014 if power is not restored back to campus. ANNOUNCEMENT Students that paid before the commencement of late registration and still experiences difficulties in registering their courses should submit their evidence of payment to the office of the Secretary-General on the 19th sept 2014. La lucha sigue Signed: Shittu I.Olatayo Secretary-General
