FROM THE NEWSROOM: A Belleville daycare still hopes to open a new facility in the city, just not on Maitland Drive. First Adventure Child Development Centre withdrew its appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board this week after City Council decided the municipal solicitor would represent Belleville at an OMB hearing into whether a nursery should be allowed at the site. The non-profit agency doesnt have finances for litigation, and abandoned the objection, but Executive Director Debbie Milne says there is still a need for another daycare in Belleville, and officials will keep looking for another location. First Adventure filed the appeal with the OMB last November, shortly after council rejected its request to rezone the property on Maitland Drive. The OMB hearing, which had been scheduled for April first, has now been cancelled.
