FROM THE NEWSROOM: After a unanimous vote by the Board of Selectman, the town of Putnam is expected to see an increase in funding for the Water Line Replacement and Relining project, pending authorization by residents at a referendum. The board has authorized Mayor Tony Falzarano to sign the documents pertaining to the two USDA loans, which total $10.6 million. Town Administrator Doug Cutler says that the increase in loan funding is tied to a grant, which he says is good news for both the project and the taxpayers. Cutler went on to say that officials did not anticipate the grant figurer to be as high as it was, and it will mean that less money must be borrowed than was originally expected. The work is scheduled to take two and a half years, with a hopeful start date in September. Crews will work through the construction season this year, and then start ‘full bore’ in 2015. As reported, the project has already been budgeted at $7.5 million, and an upcoming June 11th town meeting and June 19th referendum will seek to amend the original resolution to account for this increase in funding. Tune in for the full report.
