FROM THE NEWSROOM: After multiple presentations in Putnam and in surrounding towns, Putnam taxpayers will be able to vote on the much discussed $7.7 million proposed Quinebaug Regional Tech Park at an upcoming referendum. As reported, Scotland is the first town to partner with Putnam on the park, which raised the amount of state reimbursement Putnam will receive for the project. It was a decision Scotland First Selectman Daniel Syme said came after he brought information about the project back from the Northeastern Conn. Council of Governments (NECCOG). Looking forward, Putnam Mayor Tony Falzarano says that Scotland is considering buying a second share, and while nothing official has been decided, talks have been initiated with Brooklyn about buying in to the park as well. Falzarano says that by the end of July at the latest, Brooklyn First Selectman Rick Ives will provide a response about whether or not that town will be the next partner for the park. The more towns that buy into the project, the less money it will cost for Putnam taxpayers, says Falzarano. Also presented and approved at the meeting was sending the newly amended $15.4 million appropriation for town-wide water system improvements to a vote at the same referendum. As reported, the increase from the originally approved $7.5 million bond authorization comes from an increased loan and 30% grant from the USDA. The town-wide referendum will take place on June 19th from noon to 8:00pm. Tune in for the full report.
