FROM THE NEWSROOM: An expenditure for a fire truck was approved by Eastford residents at a town meeting last month. The total figure capped at $450,000, and a sum of no more than $55,000 was approved to come from the municipal reserve as a down payment on the truck. First Selectman Arthur Brodeur explained that a truck construction firm representative advised the town how to proceed with financing and bidding the project at a recent meeting; town officials hope that within a month a decision will be made, as there is a deadline before costs will begin to rise. Brodeur said current equipment is aging, and said Eastfords truck fleet was unfortunately denied grant funding from a FEMA grant that was applied for; he said the trucks in the fleet are an average of 19-years-old, but the grant requires that average to be at least 20 years. Tune in for the full report.
