FROM THE NEWSROOM: As progress continues on the East Putnam Fire Department construction project on Route 44, fire officials confirmed with WINY that the new station should be move-in ready by the end of the first week of June. As it heads toward completion, the East Putnam project is seeing support from its sister-department in Putnams Special Services District. Putnam Fire Marshall Norm Perron and Fire Chief Norm Bernier highlighted the necessity of the new building, saying the older fire station it will replace is essentially a renovated garage. Following the opening of the new East Putnam station, fire officials are hopeful a smoke detector give-away and open house will be held in the new building in October. East Putnam Fire District President Doug Cutler Jr. estimated that the construction project is currently about 70% complete; the new facility is 300 to 400 feet off the road and will be visible at all times of the day and night. Tune in for the full report.
