FROM THE NEWSROOM: At Tuesdays Annual Town Meeting, Woodstocks - TopicsExpress

FROM THE NEWSROOM: At Tuesdays Annual Town Meeting, Woodstocks proposed $21.8 million budget was moved forward to referendum. Board of Finance Chairman Michael Dougherty says he thinks residents will pass the budget; no criticisms or concerns were voiced at last nights meeting. But while the fate of the budget looks promising now, Dougherty says its hard to say for certain and that the outcome will depend on voter turnout. He said residents are looking for increased spending in education and town improvements, and that town officials are trying to make that happen without breaking the bank. The budget as proposed contains a .82 mil increase, which translates to a 3.7% increase in each individuals property taxes, according to the finance chairman. He went on to say that, even though in the past the Town has not increased the tax rate by more than a half a mil per year, he believes that Woodstock residents understand that they need to give something to get something back. The budget now goes to a referendum vote next Tuesday. Tune in for the full report.
