FROM THE NEWSROOM: Following a mis-communication between Putnam town officials, which resulted in a mistaken belief among local leaders that the long-blighted property located from 6 to 14 Pomfret Street had transferred ownership, it was confirmed by the town clerks office that in fact only a half-interest of the downtown building was purchased. Economic and Community Development Director Delpha Very announced at Mondays Board of Selectmen meeting that, despite her prior belief that the structure commonly referred to as the “former Lapointes building” was sold to Dayville resident Brian Perez for $137,000, Perez is in fact only a co-owner of the property. Mayor Tony Falzarano said this revelation was news to him, and said, “Im still confused on the ownership of the place.” The building, which is the last remaining wooden structure in Putnams downtown that survived the Flood of 55, has come under fire by local officials including Falzarano for being an eyesore; however, Falzarano said regardless of the ownership, whats important now is that activity to improve the buildings facade has been expedited over the past several weeks. The other owner of the property, Guillaume Leroy declined to comment for this report. Tune in for the full report.
