(AP) — A national report on high school graduation rates shows an achievement gap continues to exist in Connecticut between poor students and those who are more affluent. The report released Monday by the education advocacy group Americas Promise Alliance shows Connecticuts graduation rate went from 80.9 percent in 2003 to 85 percent in 2012. But it also notes that the graduation rate among economically disadvantaged students is at 70 percent. Stefan Pryor, the states education commissioner, says state data shows Connecticut is making progress toward closing the gaps, working closing with the states lowest performing districts and schools on programming to encourage students to stay in and succeed in school. He says the addition of more choices, including magnets and charter schools also will help in that effort.
