FROM THE NEWSROOM: In Killingly, officials will reconvene the annual town meeting tonight to present a new budget proposal for the next fiscal year, following failure of the first proposal at referendum last month. After the education and town spending plans were axed by voters at the polls, officials said that $743,000 in cuts would be made. The new combined budget proposal stands at $54.2 million total; with $14.1 million allocated to the town, and $40,063,000 to education. The education proposal was hit with the lions share of cuts; the Board of Education was charged with reducing the school budget by about $500,000. The revised budgets will be presented at the meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the new Killingly High School auditorium The meeting will adjourn to an all-day referendum vote Tuesday June 10.
