FROM THE NEWSROOM: Knock... knock... whos there? “Just another door-to-door book salesman” is too often the answer, according to Brooklyn First Selectman Rick Ives. The possibility of modernizing the town of Brooklyns peddlers ordinance is being explored by the Board of Selectmen. Ives says because the fee outlined in the current 60-year-old ordinance is so relatively low, Brooklyn doors get more knocks from peddlers than in most other nearby municipalities – Ives would like to see the fee raised up by several dozen dollars, up to nearly $100. Ives explained that, as of now, fees are not weekly, monthly or yearly, but instead apply to however long a peddler stays. Another reason to update the ordinance, Ives says, is to require background checks for these traveling solicitors like most other town do. Tune in for details.
