FROM THE NEWSROOM: Last minute donations for Thanksgiving meals are still being collected today at one area food pantry, while others kick off distribution to local families. Its estimated that hundreds of pounds of food were collected over the weekend by state and local police during the Handcuff Hunger food drive. Well have updates on the numbers throughout the morning. Project PIN in Plainfield reports that the “bus drive” it held on Saturday had a “98 percent success ratio.” The Friends of Assisi Food Pantry will continue its food drive this afternoon from 3 – 7 pm at the St. James School gymnasium in Danielson ahead of distribution, which begins tomorrow morning. As of yesterday, TEEG in Thompson reported it had received about 130 turkeys through the police food drive this weekend, in addition to donations from the community, businesses and organizations, and school children in Thompson. Daily Bread in Putnam will today get underway its distribution of Thanksgiving meals to about 400 local families.
