FROM THE NEWSROOM: MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) — A 20-year-old South Windsor woman has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for a high-speed crash last year that killed two teenagers riding in her car. Sara Ballard apologized at her sentencing Tuesday in Manchester Superior Court, and said her actions the night of the crash did not reflect who she really is. Family members of the victims also spoke in court about their loss. Ballard pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault charges in the deaths of 15-year-old Brook Wormstedt of East Windsor and 18-year-old Matthew Masse of Vernon. Police said Ballard had been smoking marijuana and was driving 80 mph when her SUV hit a tree on May 25, 2013. Her defense lawyer had said she had mental problems that made her vulnerable to influence.
