FROM THE NEWSROOM: NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is urging voters in New Haven to get out and vote for Gov. Dannel Malloy, saying the Democrat has been an instrumental partner to her husband. Organizers said 2,410 people turned out Thursday for Obamas visit to Wilbur Cross High School. Many had waited hours to get a glimpse of the first lady. Of the 2,410, about 1,600 people were packed into the schools gymnasium for the rally. About 800 people were seated in an overflow auditorium, where they could watch the rally on a television. But shortly before the main event, they were treated to a surprise visit from Malloy and Obama. Obama appeared amazed by the roar of cheers and screams. She urged them to use their excitement and energy to help re-elect Malloy.
