FROM THE NEWSROOM: NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — A groundbreaking and deed transfer ceremony is planned for the new National Coast Guard Museum in New London. National, state and local dignitaries, including Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, were scheduled to gather Friday afternoon at New London City Pier for the event. Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, Adm. Robert J. Papp Jr., is also expected to participate. In February, Malloy announced the state would commit up to $20 million to supplement the development and construction of the $80 million national museum, dedicated to honoring the maritime services 224-year history. More money still needs to be raised for the project. Malloy, Papp and New London Mayor Daryl Finizio have already signed an agreement pledging support for the museum, a four-story, 54,000-square-foot waterfront building.
