FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Brooklyn Board of Education recently approved to have full day kindergarten starting the next school year, presuming the current budget proposal passes without any cuts which may affect the program. This decision follows 100 letters which were recently sent to parents of Pre-K children by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Louise Berry asking their opinion on full day kindergarten, and research regarding the benefits of full-day versus half-day kindergarten. 57 responses came back from parents, with all except 5 supporting full-day kindergarten; the five against it argued it would interfere with the amount of time they can spend with their kids. The Board also recently decided to change the birthday requirements for enrolling in pre-k; now, a child must be 3 years of age before December 31st to enroll.
