FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Danielson Borough was presented with its annual audit report Wednesday, showing positive figures for the last fiscal year. Most notably, it was reported that after Danielson merged their tax collection services with the town of Killingly, the amount of tax collected during the fiscal year of 2013/2014 was approximately $706,500. According to the audit, the average tax collection rate over the past few years has been around 91%, which is about $580,000 annually. Last fiscal years tax collection bumped to about 95.5%, which increased the collection by more $100,000. The increase, according to Borough President Elaine Lipke, was due to the tax collection duties being carried out by the town of Killingly. Lipke says that because Killingly has more resources at its disposal compared to Danielson, the efficiency of collecting past due taxes has led to an increase in the overall amount collected. She says that many of the taxes collected were actually past due, and believes that in future years that the increasing amount of tax collected will level out. Tune in for the full report.
