FROM THE NEWSROOM: The East Putnam Fire Districts budget passed tonight at the departments annual meeting. Even with the District being in the process of building and moving into their new building, there will be no increase in the mill rate, which will remain at 1.50. The grand list will only be $8 less than projected expenses, which add up to about $366,000 for 2014-15. A good deal of adversity preluded this years budget; the District was not granted a $500,000 worth of STEAP funds that they had hoped to receive for the new building project, and when a total of 10 contractors went out to bid, all given offers were higher than what the price had been expected to be, but the USDA gave the go-ahead anyway.
