FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Sterling school district is working with the Conserv – an energy conservation program – trying to get electric rates down at the Sterling Community School. Part of the goal is to change the lights in the school, ballasts and lamps, according to Board of Education Chairman Renee Theroux-Keech, who said some fixtures will be retro fitted with a combination of LED and fluorescent lights. The cost savings of this project is yet to be determined; it will take about four years to pay back what the district spent, and everything beyond that is all savings. While changing the fixtures and lamps, Theroux-Keech said it is important the school makes sure its done in a way to work with its current day lighting system, a way of conserving energy as the sunshine gets brighter which dims lights automatically.
