FROM THE NEWSROOM: The Thompson Ecumenical Empowerment Group (TEEG) has partnered with the Connecticut Food Justice Corps, a statewide AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) project. With a mission to “engage and empower youth within issues of food insecurity and food justice,” Carl Asikainen, TEEG Community Program Manager, added that now TEEG will be hosting a VISTA member who will help with administrative, organizational and financial aspects of this programming. Asikainen said he is pleased to announce that individual, Eastern Connecticut State University-graduate Nicolle Hill from the town of Windham, has a history of experience providing services for the Northeast Corner, including food issues through the GROW Windham program. Moving forward, Asikainen confirmed Hill will be working closely with the recently-formed Youth Advisory Board at TEEG, reaching out to area high school students involved in supporting food security programming; she is scheduled to remain working with TEEG until at least next August. Tune in for the full report.
