FROM THE NEWSROOM: The construction of the west side access roadway and installation of utilities to the Quinebaug Regional Technology Park in Putnam was awarded by the Board of Selectmen Tuesday to Gerber Construction, Inc. out of Ellington for $880,000, on the condition everything checks out upon a more thorough contractual review. Also conditionally awarded in the selected application was a $20,000 add alternate bid for bringing natural gas to the site, once the best direction for gas line is determined. Town Administrator Doug Cutler says Gerbers low bid came in significantly below the budgeted $1.3 million for the west side portion of the project – another advantage is that Gerber is also working for the YMCA construction project at the park; Officials believe it will make work at the site easier to coordinate. A total of six bids were opened, ranging between $880,000 and $1.4 million for the main portion of the project, and between $19,000 and $130,000 for the add alternate bid.
