FROM THE NEWSROOM: Two men arrested on drug-related charges in Plainfield were arraigned in Danielson Superior Court today. 38-year-old Jose Manuel Rios had his bond raised from $25,000 to $35,000; 37-year-old Luis Acosta, of Florida, had his bond raised from $25,000 to $50,000. Both suspects are scheduled to return to court on November 18th. As reported, Plainfield police arrested the two men Wednesday, after a police k9 discovered heroin hidden in a vehicle during a traffic stop. Police say that at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers stopped a vehicle on Norwich Road in Plainfield operated by Rios. After Rios exited his vehicle, police say a small bag of marijuana was located on the floor board. A k9 search later indicated that there were narcotics hidden within the car. When police checked the ceiling they found a hidden compartment contained a 144 bags of heroin, allegedly prepackaged for sale, as well as a scale. Police also seized a “quantity” of cash. Rios and his passenger Acosta, of Florida, were arrested and charged with possession of heroin and possession with intent to sell. Rios faces the additional charge of possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana.
