FROM THE NEWSROOM: (UPDATE) While no people were injured in a fire at a Thompson home yesterday, several family pets either died or were unaccounted for following the blaze, according to fire officials. Community Fire Company Chief James Seney, who was the incident commander during yesterdays response to the structure fire at 59 Corttis Rd., says that an investigation by the towns fire marshal revealed that the fire was electrical in nature and originated in the kitchen. Heavy fire was showing from the home when firefighters arrived on scene, accord to Seney, who is also the deputy fire marshal in Thompson. “The call came from a passerby who just happened to be driving by, so the fire had quite a head start over us. Were unsure how long it was burning because nobody was home,” said Seney. “The original house was built in 1750 and then there were some additions,” he said. Many departments throughout the region responded to the call around noon time yesterday, with tankers brought in to battle the blaze in an area of town where there are not hydrants. The house sustained “substantial damage” and has been deemed a total loss, according to Seney. An online assessors database lists the homeowner as Brian and Patricia Kellett. Tune in for the full report.
