FROM THE NEWSROOM: (UPDATED) No injuries were reported following a plow truck which caught fire while passing by the Board of Education offices at the Plainfield Central School this morning, according to Fire Marshal Paul Yellen. The plow truck fire, originally reported around 7:41 am this morning, was extinguished around 8:09 am this morning, dispatchers say; however, Yellen confirms that ultimately the vehicle was a total loss. As reported, Plainfield fire officials were called to 95 Canterbury Road for a vehicle fire around 7:41 am this morning, according to Plainfield Police and QVEC Dispatchers. Central Village, Plainfield and Moosup fire departments all responded to the scene with a total of four engines. Yellen says this incident was one of a couple mechanical breakdowns today which have made keeping up with clearing and treating roads more challenging, describing the road conditions in Plainfield as “terrible” late this morning. According to Yellen, even if it werent for the delayed response, the vehicle would have still been destroyed – but what can yo do to make fire hazards safe during this perilous weather? Yellen says if you have a fire hydrant nearby your home, it would be in your best interest to shovel at least three feet around the hydrant so fire departments can access them with hoses. Putnam Fire Marshal Norm Perron gave similar advice for shoveling out hydrants, saying if you have the time, firefighters will appreciate the effort.
