FROM THE NEWSROOM: (VOTE TODAY) HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Republicans are heading to the polls to choose which candidate they want to challenge Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in November. The contest between Greenwich businessman Tom Foley and Senate Minority Leader John McKinney of Fairfield for the GOP nomination is the marquee race in this years primary. Republicans also must choose their nominees for lieutenant governor and comptroller. Additionally, Republicans and Democrats will pick candidates for various state Senate and House of Representatives races around the state. Secretary of the State Denise Merrill predicted 25 to 30 percent of registered voters will vote. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Foley received the GOPs endorsement in May and is considered the favorite. But McKinney has been running an aggressive campaign.
