FROM THE NEWSROOM: WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Labor officials say employers in Connecticut added 2,200 jobs in April, helping to push down the unemployment rate to 6.9 percent. The state Department of Labor reported Thursday it was the third consecutive monthly employment increase. Employers have added 6,900 jobs since April 2013. The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percent, but Connecticuts rate is still higher than the 6.3 percent jobless rate nationally in April. Labor officials say the numbers across the board show an improving labor market. For example, the number of unemployed Connecticut residents declined by more than 2,000 in April and has fallen by nearly 12 percent since April 2013. Andy Condon, the Labor Departments research director, says the pace of Connecticuts employment recovery is moderate, but seems to be on solid footing.
