QUALIFYING Always a tense affair qualifying,and here it was no different,other than there would be expectations of a different pole sitter,not to be though as nerves got the better of some drivers,for some of the field there would be tactics played out straight away in this session instead of waiting for the race,with some drivers purposefully qualifying at the back of the grid to avoid being involved in anything that may happen at turn 1,other drivers going for a different driving input system in qualifying and then changing for the race.....and others simply struggling with this now tight twisty circuit,by the end of the session we had the usual pole sitter,and a very very close grid on the timing sheet. RACE. The start of the race got off to a flyer,as the growds stood in anticipation as to which order the cars would appear at the corner in which they were sitting,and well,the order changed many times on the first lap,and for the following 33 laps to be honest,we had two cars at the front pulling out a gap for there own battle,and then 4 cars behind them involved in an epic near race long fight for the final podium position,we had drama,accidents,great overtakes and quite a few strategies at play,no position guarunteed until the flag had fallen,meaning,the race overall was a fantastic one,with even those who did not have the best of races finding that they still would be involved in a great race. Williams F1 Team KEV1EIGHTY7 QUALIFIED. POLE. FINISHED. 2nd. Taking pole yet again at a circuit he knew he was not the fastest on would have given him great confidence,yet by the end of lap two he had dropped one place and had to fight off the cars behind him to keep it,now the challenge was set,catch and beat FRR_DP,the catching part he did with good timing and using the undercut at the pit stops to great effect,on each occasion closing the gap and even getting ahead on one or two occasions,only to lose the place under DRS,he did very well to keep the pressure on the leader,and when it came down to the final 4 laps of the race,a fantastic battle would take place for the win,with overtake after overtake between the leaders it all came down to the final lap,where a moment going wide let his rival past,and 2nd place confirmed for Kev,a great race from a great driver. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ ★ KUDOS_R QUALIFIED. 9th. FINISHED. 10th. Deciding to start the race near the back of the grid,may seem an odd tactics,however at some tracks can pay off to huge effect,and thats exactly what he had planned for here,however with no contact at turn one it left him still in last place and his battle against GT5KING began,with these two having a very close race for the first 4 laps,until while attempting an overtake contact was made which saw both drivers hit the pit wall,GT5KING survived with no damage,while Kudos lost his his wing,this meant a very long lap,a pit stop for a new wing,and now a 35 second gap to claw back to GT5KING,it also meant a change of strategy,which he put to great effect as he did close down that gap,and had there been another lap,may well have earnt himself some extra points. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ Sauber F1 Team #93 WRIGHTY93_LFC2 QUALIFIED. DNA. FINISHED. DNA. DNA -DID NOT ATTEND DRIVER RATING N/A GT5KING786 QUALIFIED. 10th. FINISHED. 9th. Not quite feeling the rythme of this track in qualifying meant he would start the race on the back row of the grid,and finding himself involved in a very nice little race for the first few laps,until contact was made with Kudos,that sent GT5KING spinning towards the wall,thankfully no damage was caused other than a little bit of tyre wear and a loss of time,from here he had a very tricky race trying to catch back up to the pack while also having his shunter catch him,he did very well to negotiate the blue flags when they came to make sure he lost as little time as possible,which could have been the reason he managed to keep his place over the finish line. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ Infiniti Red Bull Racing JUHOHFIN QUALIFIED. DNA. FINISHED. DNA. DNA- DID NOT ATTEND,rumour has it,he simply does not like the Germany track. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ REEDY9221 QUALIFIED. 3rd. FINISHED. 7th. Putting in a very good time in qualifying should have put him in prime place to be in the battle for the lead,not to be though,as on the first few laps he would drop a few places,he was 1 of the many cars involved in an epic battle,up until his strategy took effect,opting to go for a 2 stop plan,option prime option on a circuit that begs for 3 pit stops,at first it would seem his plan worked,until the last two laps where his tyres decided they would like to pretend to be jelly,and he lost a lot of ground,and places,a good start to the race,and a forgettable end for this driver. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS FRR_DP QUALIFIED. 2nd. FINISHED. 1st. He came to Hockenheim with great confidence of his speed here,and then bottled it in qualifying,making mistake after mistake,meaning he could not put in his best time,so onto the race,he saw the chance to take the lead by turn 2,and took it,and from here ever so slightly edged out a gap,he saw Kev going for the undercut,but opted to stick to his own strategy,option for 10 laps,option for 10 laps,option for 10 laps,and then 4 laps on the primes,after each stop he could see his rival had closed the gap yet he did not panic as he knew the extra lap on the tyres would help,and so would the drs right after the pit exit,so when Kev did get past,DP soon took the lead straight back,and then it came down to the last 4 laps,and what followed was a fantastic battle between these two great drivers,with overtakes on each lap,more pressure than the doctors advise is healthy,now in desperation to see that chequered flag, when it came,DP would have taken the lead on the last lap,to take the win. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ JAMMYJAMES16 QUALIFIED. 7th. FINISHED. 3rd. This driver has started in many places on the grid,although this occasion would be the furthest from the front that he has started,so when he found himself fighting for 5th,4th on the first lap he would have been pleased,especially being on the prime tyre at the start,pitting on lap 5 and starting his 3 stop plan,he bolted on his option tyres and made a huge undercut work for him,when he pitted he was in 6th,when his rivals pitted he jumped past them all to take 3rd,a position that throughout the race came under threat,yet he held his nerve,and his position to take a fantastic podium place. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ ★ McLaren FRR_PF QUALIFIED. DNA. FINISHED. DNA. DNA-DID NOT ATTEND,he decided to watch his beloved Ipswich town lose live on tv, DRIVER RATING N/A DANSPILLER86 QUALIFIED. 8th. FINISHED. 8th. Once again he was not able to get much practice in at this circuit,and this is a track that really needs a drivers focus,so as the race started he may have liked that the two drivers behind him dropped away,and could leave him to try and keep with the pack ahead,a tricky task to achieve,he gave it his best,yet his tyres not being his friend here meant that 8th is where he would finish,im sure given a track he is much more comfortable with,he will work his way up the standings. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ Scuderia Ferrari OVERDYKINK QUALIFIED. 4th. FINISHED. 4th. A driver that went for interesting tactics here,qualifying on a wheel,and then switching to a pad for the race,would it benefit him,only time would tell,as the race got going he managed to work his way upto third place and had a sneaky look at second,as he did he then found himself under pressure from the cars behind,and what followed was his part in a great battle between 5 cars for one podium place,a battle that lasted for most of the race,with overtakes and undertakes lock ups and heavy brakes meant we had a good battle to see,by the end of the race he realised JAMMYJAMES had jumped him at the pit stops to take third place,meaning he would be taking 4th. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ MAUNE77 QUALIFIED. 6th. FINISHED. 6th. After his misfortune as Silverstone,it was great to see him on the track here in Germany,placing his car in 6th on the grid put him in what is known as the danger zone,thankfully no danger on this occasion,for the first part of the race,he kept his cool and watch the battle going on ahead of him as he slowly closed the gap to them all,and when the time was right,he got involved in it,picking off the odd place when a driver failed an attempted overtake on the car ahead,so now he was a player in the battle,strategy would play its part,and in the grand scheme of things it could be said it did not quite go to plan,as he went from 4th back down to 6th by the end of the race,this though i am sure would not worry him too much,because he did have a very good race. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ Sahara Force India Formula One Team SGTHITMAN91 QUALIFIED. DNA. FINISHED. DNA. DNA-DID NOT ATTEND,rumour has it he was on a contract,using the FORCE to aid his namesakes secret work. DRIVER RATING N/A JAMES-HULKENBERG QUALIFIED. 5th. FINISHED. 5th. For his second race in world championship,he put on another good showing in qualifying,placing his car in the 5th place slot,and on lap one he found he had the speed to go and fight for third,meaning he was another driver involved in the fantastic battle,and involved he was,up until he opened his DRS,steered a little too fiercely and then nearly lost the car all together,thankfully he survived this moment,although it did cost him his chance of gaining more places,it became a gap he could not quite claw back,however still a great race for him,and a move in the drivers standings with the points that he scored. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ FRR STEWARD COMMENTS A fantastic to race to watch with some great battles taking place.on review of the footage,any ETLs given in the race have been reduced to warnings.the stewards had discussed being lenient on some corners at this circuit,although there is a limit to the leniency,overall though,very good.
