QUALIFYING From the practice sessions it seemed clear that one of two drivers would have the pole position here,with the rest of the field close behind,and that is exactly how it turned out,with pole being taken by the smallest of margins 0.036 seconds,race pace would be a different matter though as again the practice sessions showed some drivers are carrying more speed in race trim,qualifying was a close affair showing us we could be on for a fantastic battle for the win,however this track has the ability to give the drivers any kind of race. RACE. LIGHTS OUT and away they go heading to turn 1,3rd and 4th jump to 1st and a battle for 2nd as the 2nd place sitter on the grid goes off at turn 1,onto turn 3 many cars side by side and then the run to turn 4,and there it all goes wrong,the two Mercedes come together leading to a crash putting them both out of position and one needing a new front wing,this now means the leader in a Ferrari can pull a gap,and we have a surprising 2nd placed car,the Mclaren of Dan Spiller,within a few laps though being that high up gave him a nose bleed and he had to drop down a place or two,the battle for 2nd place was a fantastic one,the battles for 3rd,4th 5th 6th 7th 8th 9th 10th were also epic,with no inch given,and plenty of quarters taken. with drivers out of position,3 of the top runners,we knew there would be some recovery drives on the cards,with strategy playing a major part,and changing of strategy being required,this was becoming a race to not lose concentration for a moment,if you did,you lost a place. that would be the case for some drivers,while there rivals smiled and waved as they drove by. as we entered the latter stages of the grand prix,all seemed to calm down,positions seemingly safe,until out of the blue,a safety car with 6 laps to go,the pit lane now became busier than it had been all race with most cars opting to change there tyres,some having no choice with not having used the prime tyre yet,either way it lead to a 4 lap sprint race to the end,where positions would change,the lead would be held,and for one driver,a visit to the wall and a huge loss of positions to follow,this is a race worth watching,although the commentators may have been a little tipsy. Williams F1 Team KEV1EIGHTY7 QUALIFIED. 2nd. FINISHED. 2nd. Unable to take pole position would not have fazed him,seeing as the times were so close,his focus would be on the race,having a good start yet still being pressured by 3rd and 4th into turn 1 lead to a missed braking point and running off wide into the first turn,dropping him way down the field was not ideal,in hind sight though,maybe a godsend as it meant he missed the drama between the Mercs and gained a couple of places instantly,from here it was an all out charge to get back up to the front,and put the pressure on the leader,seemingly unable to catch enough,he would have been pleased to see the safety car,hoping it gave him half a chance to take the win,not to be though,so second place for the Williams driver. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ ★ KUDOS_R QUALIFIED. 10th. FINISHED. 8th. Not a big fan of this track,yet still confident of his strategy and race pace,he put into effect a good race plan,stick to the back of the car ahead and jump them in the pits,the plan worked until a misunderstanding between driver and pit crew as they put the wrong tyres on near the end of the race,meaning he would now be under pressure from the drivers around him,so when the safety car came out he dived into the pits,gave the crew a lecture and made them put the options on,from here he secured 8th place. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ Sauber F1 Team #93 WRIGHTY93_LFC2 QUALIFIED. DNA. FINISHED. DNA. DNA -DID NOT ATTEND DRIVER RATING N/A GT5KING786 QUALIFIED. 9th. FINISHED. DNF. Another driver who appears to not get on with this track,struggling a little in qualifying,although more focused on race pace,all of his plans however went out of the window when he got caught in a bit of motorway style bumper to bumper driving which lead to the loss of his front wing,his early pit stop was only helped by the fact the same happened to another driver,so he had someone to have a great race against,which he did,until the prime tyres were put on,they really did not seem to work for him as he lost ground on his rival,and then his car was destroyed at the pit wall entrance,this bringing out the safety car,and an admittance from the driver that anger caused him to find that wall on purpose,an act that will mean he will miss the SPA grand prix due to a 1 race suspension. DRIVER RATING N/A Infiniti Red Bull Racing JUHOHFIN QUALIFIED. 11th. FINISHED. 7th. If this driver starts the race this far down then it is clear for all to see that he is not a fan of this track,he did however receive a little luck when three cars lost there wings meaning he gained a few places,from here his challenge was keeping that pesky KUDOS behind him,which he did successfully until the first few pit stops,the error from the Williams pit crew helped him gain that position back later in the race,confirming 7th place. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ REEDY9221 QUALIFIED. DNA. FINISHED. DNA. nowhere to be seen in Hungary,some believe he went to Spa to get an extra weeks practice in. DRIVER RATING N/A MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS FRR_DP QUALIFIED. pole. FINISHED. 3rd. Taking pole here is a great boost of confidence,and the best chance of victory with overtaking being so difficult here,heading up to turn 1 he saw 3rd and 4th all over 2nd place,and as they entered the corner,had to turn in late to avoid the Williams going off wide,this opened up the lead the the Ferrari,and a battle for 2nd with his team mate,a battle which lead to disaster heading up to turn 4 as both cars came together,now having lost his front wing DP had to crawl to the pits,re-plan the strategy,and recover as best he could,quickly closing in the gap to the cars ahead through the race he worked his way back to 4th place,closing the gap to the leaders from over 40 seconds at the end of lap 2 down to 15 seconds,and then the gift of the safety car,bolting on the option tyres and now half a chance of gaining more place,another battle with his team mate ensued with a couple of clean over takes,and then watching his team mate lose control of his car and confirming DP to 3rd place DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ ★ JAMMYJAMES16 QUALIFIED. 4th. FINISHED. 9th. Starting on the second row of the grid,he knows he has a chance to lead by turn 1,on this occasion it was up to a battle for second place,which as pre mentioned lead to a coming together between the team mates,this collision saw JAMES hit the wall and survive undamaged,but taking all of the escape area and losing 4 places,a recovery drive on the cards for him now as well,a drive he put together very well,soon working his way up o second place,losing that place only down to pit stops later in the grand prix,when the safety car came out it gave him the chance to bolt on a fresh set of option tyres for the last few laps in the hope of fighting for the win,instead he found himself under pressure from 4th place,and a nice battle with a few overtakes followed until disaster stuck and his Mercedes spun off towards the wall,causing damage this time that meant in the last lap and a half he dropped from 3rd to 9th,not the end of the race he was hoping for. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ McLaren FRR_PF QUALIFIED. 12th. FINISHED. DNF. starting from the back of the grid gave him plenty of chance to gain places which he usually does,and by the end of the first few laps he worked his way up to 6th place,all seemingly going very well and more positions possibly becoming available,and then all of a sudden his car failed him leaving him with only one choice,retirement. DRIVER RATING N/A DANSPILLER86 QUALIFIED. 7th. FINISHED. 6th. Turns out not doing much practice works for this guy,qualifying in 8th and being right in the middle of the action seemed to have been the best thing for him,because somehow after the first lap he found himself sitting in second place,and with a damn good chance of taking a podium,that was until a FORCE INDIA worked its way past him and then he found himself under more pressure from the car behind,it is a shame that from here he dropped a few positions,however i still think this was one of his better races,taking 6th place and a good points haul for the Mclaren team. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ Scuderia Ferrari OVERDYKINK QUALIFIED. 3rd. FINISHED. 1st. he won,so i wont say anything else,haha,only joking,qualifying 3rd on the grid he knew he had a good chance of taking the lead by turn 1,which he did as he saw a Williams go off wide,from here,the first laps were of no pressure for him,his main rivals all down the field,and unfamiliar second place sitter meant that he could pump in some good laps and open up the gap to the rest of the field,he would have seen when his rivals began to take the 2nd and 3rd place spots,and this is where he needed to stay cool and keep putting those laps in,which he did,and then the safety car,this would have been a heart in mouth moment as anything could happen from here,what did happen was a great last 4 laps from him,keeping the lead and taking a well deserved win,earning him DRIVER OF THE DAY. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ MAUNE77 QUALIFIED. 6th. FINISHED. 10th. pretty much every week i seem to write about how much bad luck he has,and it is no different this week,simply unlucky being caught in a traffic jam left him needing a new front wing,again. the only upside,he still had someone to race against,so an epic fight between himself and GT5KING would be had,with Maune eventually taking the position late on in the race,when the safety car came out it hurt him more than it helped him,timed differentley he may have been able to catch upto the pack,instead he was stuck being the 4th car behind the safety car,from here 10th place and the final point confirmed,lets all hope Spa is a wing change free event for him. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ Sahara Force India Formula One Team SGTHITMAN91 QUALIFIED. 8th. FINISHED. 5th. A tricky qualifying session for him leading to what could be a very tough race,instead what turned out was a fantastic battle with the cars around him, plenty of attempted overtakes,and a few trips over some sausages,until stuck behind danspiller for many a lap eventually the chance came to take that place and he joined his team mate behind the safety car,Force India now 4th and 5th means a very good result for the newest team on the grid. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ JAMES-HULKENBERG QUALIFIED. 5th. FINISHED. 4th. he did it again,placed his car 5th on the grid in qualifying,obviuosly some consistancy there,the first lap for him must have been like a dream,watching cars off track left right and center gifting him 3rd place,with a Mclaren ahead of him,a position that he swiftly took,now in 2nd place his eyes would be on the time growing between him and the leader,and in his mirrors at wether some of the top drivers start to catch him,it took them a while but come they did,and knowing James he would not have gifted those positions back,catching here is one thing,overtaking is another,unfortunately by the time the safety car came out,he was in 5th place,another gift was to come his way though,with his name sake having his spin it gifted both Force India drivers an extra position and more points for the team. DRIVER RATING ★ ★ ★ FRR STEWARD COMMENTS incident between MERCEDES team mates deemed racing incident,no further action. incident involving GT5KING786- admitted to intentional destruction for his car-1 race suspension. other than these two incidents it was a very good race to watch,lots of action lots of overtakes,and lots of near misses,good luck in Spa,oh and do not RAGE CRASH,it will see you get a race suspension.
