FROZEN PIPE WARNING..... Okay people - now is the time to not cut back on heat and hot water going thru your pipes! Over the next few days its going to be bitterly cold!!! Here are a few pointers for you to share.... Pipes WILL FREEZE - try to prevent them as best as possible by doing the following. Last year we attended to numerous frozen pipes after that deep freeze. A lot of horror stories of pipes bursting and rooms flooding. Its a VERY COSTLY EXPERIENCE!!! Sometimes pipes bursting can cost up to 20K. When pipes burst may times its in more than one place. So if you have a pipe that burst or leaks that means it can have numbers leaks in one pipe so be prepared for that to happen as well! We hope these pointers will help you out. FAUCETS - Trickle water in faucets over night. Best to do luke warm water. Throughout the day run the water in them every now and then. Open cabinets in your kitchen, bathrooms and laundry rooms to let the heat in. TOILETS should be flushed especially overnight. WASHING MACHINES - Do a load of laundry or two each day to keep those lines from freezing. WATER SPIGOTS - hopefully you all took off your hoses by now. If not, its probably too late. If you can cover those outdoor spigots that would help too. This was one of the biggests problems we had to address last year!!! TMZ always recommends putting in a Frost Proof Spigot. Most homes dont have them but its a good investment! If you notice any lines seem frozen you can try a hair dryer on the pipe to see if that gets the water flowing.
