FRSC kick-starts ember months safety campaigns The Federal Roads Safety Corps, Akwa Ibom Command has kicked off its regular EMBER months campaign aimed at ensuring safety on roads in the remaining months in the year, particularly during the yuletide. The sector commander, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Ocheja Issac Ameh dropped the hint when he visited the leadership of NUJ on a courtesy call at the Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo. According to him, this year’s campaign is tagged “Attitudinal Change,” which he said, is aimed at inculcating a new safety consciousness among drivers. He explained that the campaign will be taken to all motor parks in the state in order to let drivers know that, it is better to arrive alive than to either die on the road or end up in the hospital just because the driver wanted to be the first to arrive. The sector commander while calling for a close working relationship with the press used the opportunity to commend the Akwa Ibom State government for constructing new roads but urged drivers not to over speed because of the good roads put in place by the government of Chief Godswill Akpabio. Responding, the state NUJ chairman, Elder Patrick Albert commended the effort of the Federal Road Safety Corps in ensuring safety on our roads saying the establishment of the corp is one idea that has continued to receive commendations across the country. Elder Albert opined that the idea of merging FRSC with the police should be reconsidered as the corps was doing well in the mandate given to it by the government and assured the new sector commander of the cooperation of the media community in Akwa Ibom State particularly in the area of its enlightenment campaigns. He urged the FRSC to take its campaign down to the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in order to inculcate safety culture among the youths so that when they mature to drive, they will always be safety conscious
