FUN FACT: I play guitars at the local church. And perks of it is that, in the midst of some breaks like homily or stuff, I am picking out a riff or a solo in my acoustic guitar. Dont get me wrong: I still pay attention at the mass. Its just that, I only hold my guitars every weekend. Now, heres the interesting part: Id usually incorporate my musical influences in the songs. For example, the offertory song has the same chords used in The Ministry of Lost Souls - DT, so Id use the broken chords to put that creepy yet solemn effect in the song. Another is that the Kordero ng Diyos can have the same intro as Huling El Bimbo by Eheads. One time, a guy behind me sang the verse instead of Kordero. I stared at him. Throughout the mass, Id put weird yet still fitting touches at the songs. Sometimes, Id even shred out a one bar pentatonic solo. This way, I can exercise and expand my musical theory. Also, I have a friend who also plays along with me with the choir, and she is amused (not at the skills, but at the fact that the stuff I do still fits with the song). My favorite incorporation? The recessional song is in the key of G, and usually, the lay minister would say stuff along with the intro of the recessional song. The key of the song is in G major. My intro? A modified Tornado of Souls intro riff. And the choir guitarist would be like, alen wtf r u doin? :v
