FUN Fact Friday! Did you know that hugging is good for your health! When we hug someone, oxytocin is released into our bodies by our pituitary gland, lowering both our heart rates and our cortisol levels. Cortisol is the hormone responsible for stress, high blood pressure, and heart disease. In addition to releasing Oxytocin, hugs also stimulate brains to release dopamine, the “pleasure” hormone. It’s amazing that something as simple as touch can not only raise oxytocin, but it reduces cardiovascular stress and can improve the immune system. It’s suggested that you need to experience at least eight hugs a day to help you feel happier and more content with life.
