FUNDAMENTAL #20: Be Resilient, Develop Tenacity I wish I could tell you that the road to success is smooth, but I don’t want to cheat you. Statistically, only 3% of all the people that arrive on planet earth succeed. The rest of the 97% fall into the categories of “survivors”, “mediocre”, “average achievers”, and “failures”. Very few people make it to the top in any field. There are very few successful athletes, sports persons, movie-stars, corporate executives, employees, entrepreneurs, investors, pastors, prophets, parents, you name it. In every discipline or field of activity, just about 3% are truly successful. One of the main reasons why the majority fail to achieve outstanding success is lack of a resilient spirit. Many people lack the tenacity to keep on going when things are tough. Most people want the easy route, the free ride, the less stressful activities, the low capital and low risk investments. But the few that are resilient, that have the tenacity to keep fighting, keep digging, keep knocking on doors each time they are turned down until they succeed. Any worthwhile goal will not be easy to achieve. To be great, to achieve outstanding results, you will have to persevere, work hard, push yourself out of your comfort zone and commit to keep going even when things are tough. Today South Africa is called a rainbow nation, but it wasn’t easy for them to achieve success in political freedom. Today you see big businesses, but there were not always big and successful. Today you see people you admire and you say, “How lucky they are”. But if truth be told, you will realize it wasn’t luck, but resilience and tenacity at work. ACTION POINT: Resolve today that you will be fully dedicated, resilient and have tenacity to achieve BIG goals in life. Resolve that you will never easily give up on yourself and your goals until you succeed. Make up your mind that you will reach the top, or die trying.
