FUNDAMENTAL #24: Make Each Day Count You are the sum total of the little actions you do habitually every day. If you are overweight, it did not just happen. If you are/were a teenage mom, it did not just happen. If you are perpetually broke, it does not just happen. If you are not progressing in your career or business, there is something you are doing wrong habitually. If you desire to be successful in whatever area of your life, it will not just happen. You must realize that what you do or don’t do each day, cumulatively defines your present and future reality. A student who got his exam results yesterday and failed, did not fail yesterday. Yesterday was simply the announcement day. This student did not fail when writing the exam either. He might have failed a few months earlier when he missed an important class or was not paying attention in class. Then he also failed by not asking a friend to explain what he missed in class. His failure continued when he did not read and study hard enough to master the subject matter. Each day given to you has 24 hours. Make each hour count and be able to account for it. People reach age 50, 60 or 65 and reflect back and many times what they see is not so pleasant. Many times people reach their retirement age and they are so shocked to be told it is time to retire! Some even ask for a few more years to try to get organized, build a retirement home. I am glad that many of my connections on Facebook are young people. I encourage you to visualize yourself at age 60; what exactly should your life look like? What will you have become, done, have and contributed to society? You must decide everything you want to be, have and do before this age comes. Then travel back to your present age: What must you be doing today, tomorrow and each day as you walk towards your 60th birthday? You must make each day count. Each day is a building block for your entire life. Each year, you have 365 building blocks. In 10 years, a decade has just 3,650 building blocks! How do you want to utilize these building blocks as you build the life of your dreams? How many of these building blocks do you want to invest in education? How many will you invest in nurturing healthy relationships? How many will you use to sleep and rest? How many can you afford to waste in being drunk, angry, down and crying? Be wise and carefully build the life of your dreams one day at a time. ACTION POINT: Resolve to make each day count and account for all your time here on planet earth. Never start a day until it is well planned out on paper. Make sure that each day is used productively as a precious building block for your success. God bless you.
