FUNDAMENTAL PARTICLES An atom consists of the two parts : (a) Extremely small but dense central part called the nucleus. (b) Extra nuclear part. The size of nucleus is of the order 10–15 m and it contains positively charged protons and neutral particles called neutrons. These particles are collectively called nucleons.
