FV106 Armoured Recovery Vehicle Samson in CVR column during The First Gulf War, 1991 and pre-production model reg. 03SP38 with recovery spade in to provide purchase. The Samson entered service with the British Army in 1978 and has a similar hull to the Spartan Armoured Personnel Carrier. The heavy-duty winch, which is fitted within the hull of the vehicle, has a variable speed of 122 meters per minute on a 229 meter of wire rope. The maximum pulling weight when using a 4:1 snatch block is 12,000 kg (11.81 Tons). When used for recovery operations, two spades at the rear of the vehicle are lowered manually to give purchase on soft ground. An A-frame can be erected at the rear of the vehicle and can be used for engine and transmission replacement work. Samson is also armed; it has a pintle-mounted 7.62 mm machine gun and has four 76mm smoke grenade dischargers mounted on either side of the vehicle’s front body. This Samson Armoured Recovery Vehicle became a part of the collection in July 2013 and was one of 128 vehicles of the scorpion family fitted with upgraded mine blast protection.
