FYI > ARMY IN BICOL DEPLOYS DISASTER RESPONSE UNITS FOR TS YOLANDA Camp Elias Angeles, Pili, Camarines Sur – Task Group ‘SAGIP’ was immediately activated by the 9th Infantry (Spear) Division, Philippine Army, early this morning as Tropical Storm ‘Yolanda’ entered the Bicol Region area. Task Group ‘Sagip’ Commander, BGen Felix J Castro Jr of 9ID had completed the deployment plan of all Disaster Response Units of the Philippine Army, since the first meeting with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council last Monday, Nov 4. Brigades and Battalions were also ordered to activate their Disaster Response Task Units as they also attended meetings with their respective PDRRMC. A Disaster Response Operations Platoon from the Division Hqs has been augmented with the other alerted uniformed agencies as Quick Reaction Forces for RDRRMC at Camp Ola, Legazpi City, yesterday. The three Infantry Brigades have alerted its Platoon with five standby military vehicles each, while the Battalions have also their Company-size composed of more or less 120 personnel with eight military vehicles ready to be dispatched for preemptive evacuation at flood-prone, landslide-prone, and lahar/mudflow areas. Army reservists of the 5th Regional Community Defense Group, ARESCOM are also alerted for possible deployment. BGen Depayso added that the military is continuing to train its personnel on disaster preparedness, rescue operations, and water and search specialized trainings to immediately respond during times of disasters.
