FYI：Apple Wins an Advanced 3D UI Patent Covering the iOS Parallax Effect and much, much more The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 46 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we cover Apples use of a parallax interface that began with iOS 7. Apple only tapped into a tiny fragment of their 3D user interface invention. A recent rumor hinted that Apple may utilize a new 3D display in the future, but for now its just a rumor. Apples last detailed 3D UI interface patent application was filed in 2012. Samsung, the fast follower, also has a similar patent application now on record. Apple Granted Patent for 3D UI Effects on a Display by Using Properties of Motion Apple has been granted a patent today for their invention relating to 3D user interface effects. Apple implemented a part of this invention with the release of iOS 7 which used a parallax effect on the home screen. Apple also published a page covering how to reduce the effect by turning on the reduce motion effect. Apple only used a tiny fraction of their 3D invention when using the parallax effect. Apples granted patent covers other areas relating to 3D which include interaction with a virtual 3D world inside the display, how to prevent the GPU from constantly re-rendering and how it could extend to OS X for Macs. 3af Patently Apple first covered this as a patent application back in February 2012.
