FYI: One of the main reasons that the European powers met in Berlin from 1884-1885 was because they ran out of land to fight over in Europe. In order to avert more colonization and warfare on their own continent, they decided to export it to Africa. Unfortunately, 30 years later, they still hadnt gotten their act together, and thus began World War 1, which last week marked the 100 year anniversary of the start of. WW1 was supposed to be the war to end all wars. What it actually ended up doing is planting the seeds for the World War 2, roughly 20 years later, which ironically was one of the main reasons that the European powers were unable to hold onto the African colonies they had acquired just a few decades earlier. Post WW2 Europe was so devastated financially and militarily by the conflict, that they eventually ended up letting go of most of their African colonies by the 1960s. #History
