FYI from our own hard fighting Michele Lang! TwitLonger micheleylang Michele Lang @micheleylang 24th April 2014 from TwitLonger IMPORTANT. PLEASE READ. Though I do not live in NY and do not/will not receive unemployment benefits, I have posted on the New York State DOL Facebook page for over 5 years. It was one of a few places where I cut my teeth, as it were, about unemployment issues when I was receiving benefits. I have just posted the following request to them on that Facebook page. (Please see below.) I am asking that all involved in #RenewUI please contact your state unemployment offices and ask them to step up to the plate, and do what the IL Department of Employment Security (IDES) did on April 14 by issuing a very detailed strongly worded news release. If one can do it, they all can do it. Its time to let THEIR voices be heard as well. Please feel free to use the wording below (as it applies) if youd like. If they have any questions, the news release is posted on the IDES site and Ive included the link. ________________________________________________________ NYS DOL: As you may be aware, on April 14, 2014, the IL Department of Employment Security (IDES) issued a two-page detailed news release calling for the renewal of EUC and debunking the myth that unemployment insurance discourages workers from finding employment. ides.illinois.gov/Custom/Library/1/documents/news/IDES_emergency_unemployment_extension_would_help_64000.pdf I am very proud of my state for being the first of the labor offices to take a proactive stance on this issue. I am asking you to do the same, and am calling upon #RenewUI to ask all other DOL offices to do so as well. The numbers of those without federally funded benefits have gone from 1.3 million at the start to approximately 3 million currently, and those numbers grow by approximately 72,000 per week. That does not include all of the families who have been affected by this four-month-long ordeal. People already have been foreclosed upon, evicted, have lost their cars, and are losing everything of value that they own--just to hold on for another day, and another day, and another day. Theyre selling prized possessions for $10 of gas, and living on white rice. The time has come. I hope that you and all other state labor offices will join IDES in speaking out about the dire need to #RenewUI. Thank you.
