Faatalofa atu i lenei taeao fou. Continuing from our last study, Pro 12:25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. LITERALLY: Heaviness in the heart of man makes it fall down: but the good word makes it glad. SPIRITUALLY: Anxiety of the heart weighs a man down: but the Word of God saves. Were looking at a couple of terms that may be hard to understand but the intent of the verse should always be about the Gospel, so we will endeavour to look at it further and see what God is teaching us in it. Looking at the first part of our verse: Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: we want to look at the Hebrew word that is translated as heaviness and we find that it is the word: [ 01674 הגאד dᵉ’agah deh-aw-gaw’ ] translated as: [AV-carefulness 2, fear 1, heaviness 1, sorrow 1, with care 1; and used 6 times in the OT.] and we see how it is applied as in verse 16 following; Ezekiel 4:9 Take thou also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and millet, and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make thee bread thereof, according to the number of the days that thou shalt lie upon thy side, three hundred and ninety days shalt thou eat thereof. 10 And thy meat which thou shalt eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day: from time to time shalt thou eat it. 11 Thou shalt drink also water by measure, the sixth part of an hin: from time to time shalt thou drink. 12 And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight. 13 And the LORD said, Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, whither I will drive them. 14 Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! behold, my soul hath not been polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is torn in pieces; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth. 15 Then he said unto me, Lo, I have given thee cow’s dung for man’s dung, and thou shalt prepare thy bread therewith. 16 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care ; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment: 17 That they may want bread and water, and be astonied one with another, and consume away for their iniquity. The application here indicates that the children of Israel must eat bread with care, meaning that they must be thoughtful and in all considerations take serious the Word of God and His laws which today we have it in the written form, the Bible. and another in verse 19; Ezekiel 12:17 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 18 Son of man, eat thy bread with quaking, and drink thy water with trembling and with carefulness; 19 And say unto the people of the land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulness , and drink their water with astonishment, that her land may be desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein. 20 And the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall be desolate; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. Here we see the same concept as noted above in chapter 4. Next, we want to look at the Hebrew word that is translated as heart and we find that it is the word: [03820 בל leb labe ] translated as: [ AV-heart 508, mind 12, midst 11, understanding 10, hearted 7, wisdom 6, comfortably 4, well 4, considered 2, friendly 2, kindly 2, stouthearted + 047 2, care + 07760 2, misc 21; ; and used 593 times in the OT.] and we see how it is applied as used below; Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart . Both words used here pointing at the heart of man in verse 5 and the heart of God in verse 6, so this is the same as the spirit of man. and another in verse 11 following; Psalms 97:9 For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. 10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. 11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart . 12 Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. Next, well check with the hebrew word that is translated as stoop and we find that it is the word: [07812 החשׁ shachah shaw-khaw’ ] translated as : [ AV-worship 99, bow 31, bow down 18, obeisance 9, reverence 5, fall down 3, themselves 2, stoop 1, crouch 1, misc 3; and used 172 times in the OT.] and some of where aplied; Genesis 23:7 And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth. 8 And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar, 9 That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you. 10 And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying, 11 Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead. 12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land. 13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there. 14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him, 15 My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead. 16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant. 17 And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure 18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. 19 And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. 20 And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth. The negotiation of the purchase of the burying place for Sarah, his wife. I wonder what the spiritual meaning of this story/parable is?...to be continued, Lord willing. and another in verse 2 following; Psalms 29:1 Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. 3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters. Simply used here as worship as in worshipping the Lord. Notice that the voice of the LORD is upon many waters which means spiritually that the TRUTH of Jehovah is in His Word, the Bible (waters) represented by the True gospels that witness it. Looking at the second half of our study verse: ...but a good word maketh it glad We want to look at the Hebrew word that is translated as good and we find that it is the word: [02896 בוט towb tobe ] translated as: [AV-good 361, better 72, well 20, goodness 16, goodly 9, best 8, merry 7, fair 7, prosperity 6, precious 4, fine 3, wealth 3, beautiful 2, fairer 2, favour 2, glad 2, misc 35; and used 559 times in the OT.] and how it is applied; Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good . And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Translated for us is this word as better than excellent or perfect. and another; 2 Chronicles 6:38 If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name: 39 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee. 40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. 41 Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness . 42 O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant. Quoting a partial version of how God turns His anger for his elect because it is God that changes the heart not man. Next, we want to look at the hebrew word that is translated as: word and we find that it is the word: [ 01697 רבד dabar daw-baw’ ] translated as: [ AV-word 807, thing 231, matter 63, acts 51, chronicles 38, saying 25, commandment 20, misc 204; and used 1439 times in the OT.] and how it is applied; Genesis 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech . Used here as speech or language of mankind. and another; Psalms 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. Psalms 107:20 He sent his word , and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalms 119:81 CAPH. My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word . All the above reference refer to the Word of God, the Bible. Finally, we want to look at the Hebrew word that is translated glad and we find that it is the word: [ 08055 חמשׂ samach saw-makh’ ] translated as: [AV-rejoice 95, glad 45, joy 5, joyful 2, merry 2, misc 3; and used 152 times in the OT.] and how it is applied; Psalms 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad . The rejoicing of the people of God for their salvation. Psalms 119:74 They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word . 75 I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me. 76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant. 77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight. More rejoicing in the Word of God that is the fulfillment of the hope for the elect. In conclusion, when we consider our study verse: Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. that the heaviness or the respect that the God has put in the heart of His elect, as he promised; [Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. ] and the responsibility he has for truth that the only remedy for it is to know the truth of the Word of God. [Psalms 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.] When we understand His Word, the Bible, he child of God will rejoice because he will no longer run to and fro yielding to every false whim and fables: [Amos 8:12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.] practicing ungodliness in which the elect of god is warned against: [1 Timothy 4:6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. 7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.] It is clear in our study verse that the Holy, Inspired, Infallible, tried and true Word of God, the Bible makes the soul glad, if God will give us the understanding.
