Fabulous first class! Garden HEAL (Health Education & Action - TopicsExpress

Fabulous first class! Garden HEAL (Health Education & Action Leaders) met on September 21, 9:00am to 12:00 for Orientation, Conocimiento, Preliminary Group Acuerdos, and SOIL QUALITY PLATICA. Youth HEALers provided live soil-mixing demonstration and tips for making a Seedling Starter Soil mix. We use (1) Homemade organic compost, (2) Renewable resource coconut coir, and (3) vermiculite. We DO NOT RECOMMEND USE OF PEAT MOSS because commercial harvesting of peat moss from the forest floor severely disrupts delicate ecosystem and can damage old forests. Peat moss takes hundreds of years to build up on the forest floor. Coconut coir is a quickly renewable resource. Next class: Saturday, September 28, 9:00am to 12:noon: THE SOIL FOOD WEB. Free to all members of the Food Growers Collective. $25 per class NonCollective Members.
