Facebook Artist Challenge - Day 2 There was a short while in 2013 where it seemed like every burger we ordered in a restaurant came served with the toppings placed below the patty. Ashley and I would scowl knowingly to each other and agree repeatedly that “they’re called toppings for a reason.” One day, after receiving a particularly mis-constructed burger, I commented that every kitchen should have an exploded diagram of a burger to illustrate proper burger assembly. Ash loved the idea and kept on me about it for the next few days. I had only recently moved to Marquette and had made the poor decision to hire a moving company rather than renting a U-haul. This decision was poor because my belongings had not yet arrived and wouldn’t arrive, it turned out, for another few weeks. Also, Ash and I were working opposite schedules at that time so I had a lot of evenings to myself (and no furniture, internet, television, or books). Due to the lack of distractions, this piece came together relatively quickly. I had drawn similar technical illustrations in the past when I was working as a design intern for Daktronics. I’ve always appreciated this type of isometric drawing style; probably due to a lifelong fascination with Lego bricks. I brushed up on my isometric projection algorithms (that’s just fun to write) and got to work piecing together the various burger ingredients. Shortly after producing the first printed version of this piece I realized it probably would have worked well as a blueprint than a black and white drawing. Today, I finally have some extra blue paper on hand and am hoping to print the blueprint version of this piece shortly. Pictured below are photos of the original print, a mockup of the blueprint version, and my sad empty place.
