Facebook says; what’s on your mind. Well, this Monday morning B is on my mind. B – Barnes, Scott aka Barney B - Brad, Mayor Brad Crain B – Benefit location (Covington City Park) B – Black Rose Reception Band B – Burton, Kasey (country singer from Southmont) B – Beans, Soup beans, ham and cornbread B - Bands, Paradigm band members who graciously showed up at benefit but did not have opportunity to play. B – Benefactors Scott Barnes means many different things to all of us. To some he is a childhood friend, to many a sports enthusiast to put it lightly. He is without a doubt a walking, talking book of knowledge no matter what the sport. But, most of all he is just Barney, our friend. Brad Crain – The mayor and deciding factor in allowing the benefit to be held in the city park upon such short notice. We cannot possibly thank you enough. Benefit location – Covington City Park, where else could you hold a benefit this size and offer so much. We had it all, although the weather did not allow all events to happen. From horseshoes, disc golf and corn hole to sack races and tug of war. I can only imagine if the weather had been a little warmer the sounds of laughter and rivalry that would have filled the air. Black Rose Reception – You stepped up and never, ever let me doubt the weather and your ability to pull this off. Your band was amazing and helpful with everything asked of them. I doubt you have ever helped with a cake walk before, huh? Thanks again for being the rock stars you are and your support in this benefit for your friend. Burton, Kasey is a teenager from Southmont that is no doubt going to go far in the entertainment world. Singer, song writer and down home kind of girl anyone would be proud of. She is a class act, not to mention gracious and kind. I will be proud to say I knew you when. Just wish I had asked for an autograph. Beans – What a meal. Rick Smith and Jeff Congleton did an amazing job with the biggest cooker I’ve ever seen. Watching those beans swell ( 40 lbs.) I wasn’t sure it would hold them. But it did and a special thanks to Wayne White and the County Market for providing the ham that gave it just the right touch and the many volunteers that provided the cornbread and goodies to go with it. Band members of Paradigm. I am so sorry you did not play but you will get your day. I promise. Another class act from our hometown to be proud of. Thanks for staying and supporting. Benefactors - I honestly don’t know where to start. Little Beverage and Chris Gayler did an awesome job of putting together the fliers you’ve seen all over town and Facebook. They always, always support. Thank you so much. We asked for cakes and did we get cakes, almost 50 and what didn’t go on the cake walk we auctioned. Greg Clingan stepped up and showed up and without him I’m sure we wouldn’t have raised the amount we did. So thank you Greg. Special thanks to Bob Taylor and Brad Myrick who stayed faithfully at the gate to get your entry money. So thankful to those that paid and shame on you to those that didn’t. You know who you are. Two ladies went above and beyond when I asked for help. Jean Myrick and Patty Wagner are my heroes. You give them a task and they run with it. They deserve a thank you next time you see either one of them. Unbelievable!! The Bean Pot ladies, Sharon Dunkerly and Rhonda Arrasmith were the two best servers I’ve ever seen. What a joy to be around and watch them in action. Thank you, ladies. And now, a very special thank you to the staff of the Northside Pub, our many family and friends that stepped up, as they always do, and to all of you that gave so generously of not only your time and money, but for the many auction items. In fact we had so many that a silent auction of remaining items will be this Friday at the VFW steak supper here in Covington. So come on out and let’s keep this show of love and support for Barney going strong. I might be Illinois born and bred, but so honored and thankful to be a part of this community that I have come to know and love. Lesley Taylor Chilcote
