Facebooks only concession yesterday was to give drag performers - TopicsExpress

Facebooks only concession yesterday was to give drag performers two weeks to bring their profiles in line with Facebooks real names only rule. But as of this morning, one drag performer we know (Queen Dilly Dally aka Christopher King) found her account deleted. I know this impacts some people more than others but it affects more people than drag queens. Katie and I do more drag than anybody wants to hear about, but the reason we dont use our real names on Facebook is because her job requires a firewall, and its been breached twice already. There are plenty of simple solutions Facebook could implement (like, just put a dang asterisk next to any unverified name). And ultimately, its easy to fake your identity here...theyre just targeting the people who are using names that make it clear they ARE fake names. They arent checking all their John Smiths. I figure at the very least its time to rethink this unregulated monolithic interface between me and the online world. Katies started a group where people are kicking ideas around. At this point I cant see deleting my Facebook account but I think I could get by better using it less. #mynameis
