Facing Facts ================ Read Romans 1:1 through 4:25 Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead (Romans 4:18–19). Both Abraham and Sarah knew their bodies were not able to produce offspring. Abraham did not deny reality; he knew it would take a miracle for Sarah to conceive. He trusted in the greater reality: God is able to do the impossible. Throughout Scripture, God never asked anyone to believe anything that was untrue. Whatever the appearances to the contrary, if God said He was going to do something, the hearer could trust God to follow through. The observable facts of any situation are not what determine our response to God’s promises. Our response is based on our understanding of God’s unchanging character. His character is revealed in Scripture, in creation, and evidenced by His presence in our hearts and lives. Thought for Today: God will accomplish His purpose in you if you place your trust in Him.
