Fact of the day #Ramadan - Day 19 Truthfulness is a major virtue in Islam, however it is more than just truthful speech. In Islam, truthfulness is the conformity of the outer with the inner, the action with the intention, the speech with belief, and the practice with the preaching. White lies upon lies start to develop a spiritual disease within oneself (which often a person may not even realise), making it detrimental to a person’s spirituality. Furthermore, truthfulness overlaps with other qualities such as sincerity, honesty and integrity, all of which build a person’s character. Without these, mistrust, doubt and scepticism spreads amongst people, which causes further difficulties in all types of relationships. "Be maintainers of justice and bearers of true witness for Allah, even if it (the truth) goes against your own selves or parents or relatives or someone who is rich or poor." - Qur’an 4:135 "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise.” – Prophet Mohammad (Hadith - Sahih Bukhari: 73:116)
